Jan. 18, 2021 will mark the 26th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday celebrating the civil rights leader’s birthday, life and legacy.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Each year, the communities of Royal Oak and Berkley recognize the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off” and host a joint event with collaborative community projects. Due to the coronavirus and numerous public health restrictions, we are unable to host an event this year.
For those looking for a service project, Royal Oak and Berkley Schools have created a list of local opportunities where you can donate your time and service. This list will be updated regularly as we hear of more opportunities in the area.
