Royal Oak Civic Center

A proposed public-private partnership between the City of Royal Oak and the Central Park Development Group, the Royal Oak Civic Center consists of five projects within and surrounding the current city hall site:

  • A new 33,000 sf Royal Oak city hall
  • A new 581 space parking garage
  • A new police station
  • A new public downtown park

Construction of the medical center began in May 2018, and the building is expected to be completed in September 2020.  The 581 space 11 Mile parking structure is now open, and Royal Oak's new city hall and police station are currently being constructed with anticipated occupancy in the summer of 2020.  For more information and updates about the entire project, please visit RethinkRO.

Etkin Office Project

This recently completed $20 million, 74,000-square-foot office building is situated at the corner of 11 Mile and Center Street and has brought more than 350 daytime employees to downtown Royal Oak. 

Tenants include research firm Gongos Inc.; the building's developer, Southfield-based Etkin LLC; and Stout Risius Ross.

Woodward Corners by Beaumont

The former Northwood Shopping Center at the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road is currently the site of a new $32.8 million development. The 183,000-square-foot complex will feature green space, landscape gardens and an assemblage area to host festivals and fairs.  Set for completion in the first quarter of 2020, Woodward Corners is expected to bring over 30 new businesses to Royal Oak, including a new hotel, Panera Bread, Brown Iron Brewhouse, New Order Coffee, Wahlburgers, Grabbagreen, AKT Fitness, and Woodward Corner Market by Meijer.

Hyatt Place Hotel Project

Located at at 400 N. Main, the five story, 122-room Hyatt Place hotel opened on November 8, 2018.  Regus, a flex office and co-working space, is located on the second floor. 

Currently under construction adjacent to the hotel is a 91 unit luxury apartment complex that should be completed in 2019.

Kinetic Creations Headquarters

Construction is complete with this $4 million mixed-use, three story building developed by Royal Oak-based Kinetic Creations as its new headquarters on 4th Street.  For leasing opportunities, click here.

Former Citizens Bank Project

Demolition crews have finished taking down the long-vacant Citizens Bank building at 218 S. Main to make way for a two-story building that will include a restaurant, retail and office space.  Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2019.

The Griffin Apartment Project

Singh Development has just started construction of its $65 million, 245 luxury apartment and retail development located at the gateway to downtown Royal Oak.  The 250,000 square-foot building will also include a cafe, business center, courtyard pool and fitness center, among other amenities.

Eagle Plaza

In 2015, Royal Oak successfully completed its crowdfunding initiative to transform the worn-out Center Street pedestrian plaza into a state-of-the-art ‘smart park’ that will incorporate many elements, including Wi-Fi, charging stations, solar panels, touch-screen kiosks, and sustainable landscaping.  The project, which utilized the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Public Spaces Community Places program, is now open.
