Crash Reports, Incident Reports, Background Checks, FOIA Requests and Discovery Requests
Copies of Crash Reports, Incident Reports, Background Checks, FOIA Requests and Discovery Requests are facilitated through GovTransfer. In most circumstances, these reports are available approximately 48 hours after an incident during regular office hours, unless the case is still under investigation. GovTransfer is used by the Department for transferring sensitive information in a secure environment to our residents and to other agencies. FOIA Requests
If you do prefer to complete a FOIA request (manually) please fill out the Michigan Freedom of Information Act Request form (PDF) and submit it to the Royal Oak Police Records Division via email at ropdfoia@romi.gov. Forms can also be mailed to:

Auto Impounds & Auctions
Questions about auto impounds and auctions should be directed to Property Specialist Stacey Sheldon at 248-246-3427.
Weapon Return Requests
Individuals requesting the return of weapons in the custody of the Department should complete a Return of Weapons form and submit it to the Records Division.
Concealed Weapon & Firearms Purchase Applications
Concealed Pistol License kits are now available from the State of Michigan web site (www.michigan.gov). Further questions should be directed to the Oakland County Clerk's Office at 248-858-0575.
Applicants for firearms purchase permits will need to bring a Michigan Driver's License or State ID and Birth Certificate or Passport.
Records personnel will notarize and accept applications during the following hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
COST: There will be a $10 notary fee for all firearms permit applications.
