Yard Waste bags are collected (when in season) from your home and delivered to the Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (SOCRRA) compost facility in Rochester Hills where they are turned into humus-rich compost.
SOCRRA Compost Site
SOCRRA's compost site at 1741 School Road, Rochester Hills, Michigan is managed by Spurt Industries. Residents can obtain compost at SOCRRA’s compost site or order home delivery.
- FREE On-site self-serve: Residents can self-serve (shovel) compost at SOCRRA’s compost site in Rochester Hills, free of charge. Remember to bring your own shovel and container. Residents will need to show proof of residency. No appointment is required.
- On-site load: Residents can purchase compost or Spurt Dirt blend on-site and Spurt will load it into your truck or trailer for you. 1 yard minimum. Please keep in mind that compost is a heavy material, the weight is around 1,200-1,500 lbs./cubic yard, so they recommend putting 1 cubic yard in the bed of a standard pick-up truck. The payment method is cash (at the site).
- Off-site delivery: Residents can order compost or Spurt Dirt blend to be delivered to their homes directly from Spurt. 3 yard minimum and the delivery fee is based on the exact location. The compost will be dumped in your driveway. The payment method is credit/debit card over the phone prior to delivery. For SOCRRA Community Members the cost is $24/yard + delivery. Royal Oak Compost Site
The FREE compost pile for residents of Royal Oak is located on the east side of Coolidge, North of 13 Mile Rd. The compost pile is in a vacant lot just north of the batting cages - the southwest corner of the park. Please enter from 13 Mile Rd. The compost pile will be available seasonally. Once frost laws are lifted Spurt Industries will make deliveries from SOCRRA's Compost site in Rochester Hills to Royal Oak until the weather turns. The compost pile may be moved and temporarily unavailable during large events such as the Woodward Dream Cruise.
