Improving Royal Oak
2023 project map

2023 Construction Project Map available now!

Use the map above to see if a project is affecting your street. The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project.

Notices of Construction have been mailed to affected residents and copies are available online here.

CAP2306 Rochester Road

This week the contractor will be finishing the concrete work on the east side of Rochester the second half of the week (when weather clears up), pouring approaches and intersections.

The contractor will also be connecting the new water main to the existing system this week Any residents affected by the water shut off will be notified in advance via doorhanger.

Turn Restrictions and Closures:

Left turns will not be allowed for northbound and southbound traffic at 12 Mile Road, Girard Avenue and at 13 Mile Road during construction to avoid backups. Northbound Rochester Road will be completely closed between Gardenia Avenue and Dewey Street. Local access to the Oakview Cemetery and Rite Aid will remain open.

More information about the lane conversion can be found at:
www.romi.gov/RochesterRoad

CAP2308 Major Road Improvements

Vinsetta Boulevard:

Final paving of Vinsetta is scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week. The contractor will also be working on cleanup and lawn restoration.

Normandy Road:

The contractor has completed water main installation and the new water main will undergo testing this week.

Normandy Road will be closed to thru traffic throughout construction. Residents with driveways on Normandy will still be able to enter the construction zone via the side streets to access their property. Businesses should direct their patrons, employees and deliveries to use Coolidge to access Normandy Road to minimize conflicts with construction work.

Lincoln Avenue:

Lincoln Avenue is substantially complete. This week the contractor will work on finishing the remaining pavement markings, and start sign installations and island landscaping.

CAP2305 Concrete Repair Program

This week the contractor is continuing work in the Phase 5 neighborhood, working on the second halves of the project streets. The contractor has also begun work prepping for new speed hump installations on Buckingham Road, which will be installed in the next few weeks.

Work in Phases 1-4 is substantially complete.

Work will only be performed on one side of the street at a time, to maintain access for residents throughout construction. Only the worst sections of concrete pavement will be removed and replaced, not the entire roadway. If driveway access will be affected, residents will be notified the day beforehand via doorhanger.

The map below shows the project streets highlighted in LIGHT BLUE.

CAP2310 Water Main Improvements

Longfellow

Road, curbing and driveway restoration continues this week. Once the new concrete has fully cured, driveways will be reopened. The contractor will also be working on cleanup.

Sixth Street

This week the contractor will be transferring individual residents' water services to the new main - this work will begin after the 4th of July holiday. These connections usually require a short duration water shut off and the contractor will notify residents beforehand.

CAP2315 Asphalt Resurfacing

The project streets shown in purple on the project map have been divided into three phases as shown below.

Phase 1

Lawn restoration will begin this week of Phase 1 streets.

On Hawthorn, paving will be rescheduled to be done during the next paving session.

On Forest, storm sewer deficiencies were found and repairs need to be performed. Last week the contractor finished the eastern pipe section. This week they will work on the section east of Oakmont, and the section west of Oakmont will be completed next week.

During the sewer work, Forest will be completely closed from Alexander to house #524/527, and residents within this section will not have access to their driveways.

On N. Wilson, the contractor will continue lawn restoration work. Final paving will occur next paving session.

Phase 2

On Etowah, the contractor will begin work on the west side of the roadway after completing work on S. Blair, likely Friday.

On Hoffman, the contractor has completed curb replacement work. The roadway will be scheduled for milling once work on Blair progresses.

On S. Blair, concrete work continues this week, on the west side of the roadway.

Phase 3

Construction on these streets is scheduled to begin mid-July. The contractor may begin saw-cutting the concrete in advance.
