Dream Cruise

Dream Cruise Dos & Don'ts

It's Dream Cruise weekend! Here's our annual list of 'Dos and Don'ts' for what is considered the world’s largest one-day automotive event.

1. Do remember it's an alcohol free event
Keep in mind it is a family event and there is zero-tolerance for alcohol at this event.

2. Don't drive recklessly
Reckless driving, including spinning tires or revving engines, isn't tolerated. It's misdemeanor violation and you could end up with a fine up to $500.

3. Don't sit or stand in the median
The median is used as a emergency lane, so please don't sit or stand in it.  You can bring lawn chairs and sit along the curb, but please don't block the sidewalks.

4. Do follow traffic laws, even if you are on a bike
A few mishaps with bikes have occurred over the years. Legally you can ride a bike on Woodward during the Dream Cruise, but it's not recommended. If you do, you must follow all traffic laws, which means you can't weave between cars or ignore traffic signals.
You can ride your bike on the sidewalk, but you have to be courteous to pedestrians. It's best just to walk your bike around.

5. Don't use the neighborhoods as a parking lot
Cruisegoers may legally park on neighborhood streets but cannot block driveways or sidewalks. And cars can't be left overnight. Residents need to be able to get in and out.

Listen Up, Royal Oak!

The new City Commission chamber offers an assistive listening solution that delivers clarity to those struggling to hear in a big room that can at times be crowded. The device (shown in the photo) is easy to use.

If you are interested in trying one, please call the Human Resources Department at 248-246-3070 in advance of any meeting you are planning to attend. We’ll be happy to have a listening device ready and waiting for you!

Lockbox Picture

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
