City Commission Meets Monday

Residents can find agendas for city commission meetings on the city's website.

Please note, meeting agendas are often revised at the last minute, so please recheck the agenda prior to the meeting for any changes.

Late Friday Trash Pickup

Due to unforeseen staffing and equipment issues, refuse pickup is behind schedule and will run later into the evening today, Friday, July 22. GFL crews are working hard (in this heat!) to make sure Royal Oak is picked up.

If your trash is still missed for some reason, please contact the department of public services – dps@romi.gov – and staff will arrange for a prompt resolution on Monday. Have a great weekend, and stay cool!
Trees

Request a Free Street Tree!

Royal Oak is committed to reforesting Royal Oak’s neighborhoods. We would like to plant a tree in the right-of-way in front of your home!

It is critical that we proactively and aggressively plant trees in neighborhoods now to ensure that residents enjoy the shade, beauty, and countless other benefits of trees well into the future. Beautiful tree-lined streets 20 years from now require us to make these substantial investments, and we need YOU to help!

Request a free tree to be planted this fall, and to learn more about the tree canopy expansion program!

Main Street

Main Street

It’s high five time! All road barricades are down. All that’s left is landscaping for the new pedestrian medians. (New mast arm traffic signals are slated to be installed later in the summer.)

Come down and celebrate at your favorite Main Street establishment.

Cool down

Cool Off With Us!

Summer is officially here! With higher temps, comes the need to cool down. We want to remind residents that the Salter Center (1545 E Lincoln Ave)  and the Mahany/Meininger Senior Center (3500 Marais Ave) are available during normal business hours to drop in and escape from the heat.

Sustainability & Climate Action Plan Adopted

Royal Oak has adopted its first sustainability and climate action plan. The 2022 Royal Oak Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (S-CAP) is a three-year action strategy that outlines projects and programs to support the city’s sustainability and climate goals.

The plan represents the first formal sustainability planning effort for Royal Oak and includes environmental protection, economic prosperity, greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, and social accessibility, inclusion, and equity.

Listen

Listen Up, Royal Oak!

The new City Commission chamber offers an assistive listening solution that delivers clarity to those struggling to hear in a big room that can at times be crowded. The device (shown in the photo) is easy to use.

If you are interested in trying one, please call the Human Resources Department at 248-246-3070 in advance of any meeting you are planning to attend. We’ll be happy to have a listening device ready and waiting for you!

Lockbox Picture

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
