Jingle & Light Parade

Downtown Royal Oak will Sparkle this Saturday!

The Holiday Light Parade takes place on Main Street, between Lincoln and Eleven Mile, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. The parade features floats from The Parade Company, the local community and businesses. More than fifty organizations will be joining us this year including the Royal Oak High School Marching Band, Detroit School of Arts Marching Band, Meijer, Redford Unicycle Group, New Edge Figure Skating Club, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Salvation Army and many more! Each group challenges their ingenuity to illuminate floats, vehicles or other fun motorized object!

Santa & Mrs. Claus will be greeting Jingle visitors inside a heated tent with a beautiful holiday backdrop on Center Street between 3rd and 4th Street. Families can take their own FREE photos Santa & Mrs. Claus from 8p.m. – 10p.m.

Romi

Romi's Giving Tree

We want to thank all the folks who stopped by the centennial celebration last week and participated in Romi’s Giving Tree.

If you missed it, the tree is in the lobby of City Hall. Feel free take an ornament home for your tree -- or you can color it and bring it back!

Please consider making a donation to the Royal Oak Animal Shelter when you take an ornament. Your gift helps pay for food, toys and medical expenses for our furry friends.

Bike Friendly

Royal Oak earns Honorable Mention in the latest round of awards to Bicycle Friendly Communities!

The League of American Bicyclists awarded 57 places with a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) in its Fall 2021 round. Royal Oak joins a grand total of 497 BFCs -- across all 50 states -- pedaling their way to a Bicycle Friendly America.

“We are thrilled to join peer cities in the League’s fall 2021 cohort”, said Julie Lyons Bricker, Royal Oak’s energy and sustainability manager.  “The award as an honorable mention city shows that we have a great start and should celebrate our existing efforts, while also recognizing that there are additional opportunities to make cycling in our community safer and more accessible as an additional mode of travel and form of exercise.”

Listen

Listen Up, Royal Oak!

The new City Commission chamber offers an assistive listening solution that delivers clarity to those struggling to hear in a big room that can at times be crowded. The device (shown in the photo) is easy to use.

If you are interested in trying one, please call the Human Resources Department at 248-246-3070 in advance of any meeting you are planning to attend. We’ll be happy to have a listening device ready and waiting for you!

Lockbox Picture

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
