Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy Returns

The Royal Oak Police Department is accepting applications for the 2021 Citizens Police Academy.

The Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is an exciting seven-week course that meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at the police station at 6:30 p.m. Classes last for approximately three hours. The fall session begins Oct. 6, 2021.

Open only to residents of Royal Oak, attendees get an insider's look at the internal operations and challenges of the police department. You must be 18 years of age or older to attend the academy. All potential applicants are screened before they are accepted. You will be notified no later than Sept. 30, 2021, if you have been admitted. Questions regarding the academy should be directed to Lt. Al Carter at albertc@romi.gov.

The class size for the academy is limited and generally fills up quickly so if you are interested, do not delay!

Hey, Royal Oak artists! The Deadline is August 1

To celebrate Royal Oak's centennial, the Parks, Recreation & Senior Services Advisory Board, in partnership with the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts, is sponsoring an art contest to celebrate Royal Oak's more than 50 parks.

The theme for art contest is: “Why I love Royal Oak Parks." We would like contest participants to submit artwork depicting the various uses of city parks.

The contest is open to any interested person, of all ages. (Kids, too!)

Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity, and how well the submission addresses the contest theme. You must be a resident of Royal Oak to enter.
In addition to bragging rights, the winners -- thanks to the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts -- will receive prizes!

The deadline is August 1, 2021.

Lockbox Picture

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
