What Is a Ruck March?
A ruck march is a military-style endurance walk done at a brisk pace while carrying weight. In the Armed Forces, participants typically carry at least 45 pounds of gear in their packs.
For our Royal Oak event, we invite participants* to walk or march 2.2 miles while carrying 22 pounds—or 22 food or personal items—to raise awareness for veterans in crisis.
*Children must be accompanied by an adult participant.
Why “22”?
Every day, 22 veterans die by suicide in the United States. We carry “22” to show support for veterans in crisis and to honor their families.
All donated food and personal items will go to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154, which supports veterans and their families. All funds raised will benefit local organizations helping veterans in need.
