Divisions


The 44th District Court serves the Royal Oak and Berkley communities.  It is comprised of two district judges, court administrator, part-time magistrate, twenty-six fulltime employees and nineteen part-time employees.

Administration

Under general supervision of the Chief Judge, the Court Administrator serves as the executive officer for the 44th District Court. The Court Administrator is responsible for the administrative management of all non-judicial functions of the Court. This includes personnel management, fiscal management, scheduling, case management, record management, jury utilization and other administrative duties. 
 

Criminal

Maintains records on all misdemeanor and felony offenses and is responsible for the processing, scheduling and noticing of all criminal cases in the court.

Traffic

Responsible for maintaining records and processing all traffic civil infractions, parking violations, and code enforcement proceedings.


Civil

Maintains records on general civil, landlord/tenant and small claims cases and is responsible for the scheduling, processing and noticing of these cases.


Probation/Compliance Department

The three components of the department are probation, collections and jury management.  Probation works with those sentence to probation to comply with orders of the court, obtain needed counseling or other services designed to treat substance abuse and eliminate recidivism. The collections component works to insure that fines and costs assessed by the court are collected in a timely manner.  The jury management clerk is responsible for summonsing potential jurors, all jury management administrative tasks, and payment to individuals for jury service.
